Loxley

7:34 PM

Okay so my new mindset that I've decided to try out is still a work in progress. But I can say that this past week didn't completely suck like the week before, AND I only had one meltdown that lasted like 5 minutes (nice)! So I'd definitely say it's been getting better, very very slowly, but surely!

With only 3 Sundays left until we are home bound, our "fun days" are getting down to the wire! We've been recommended multiple times since we've been down here to eat at a restaurant called Lambert's Cafe down in Loxley, and yesterday was the day we finally went! We planned on being there around 2 in the afternoon because "everyone's already eaten lunch by then, and it's far too early to have dinner", or so we thought..

So we pull up and the parking lot is PACKED and the line to get in is filing out the front door and around the corner, no joke! We squoze through a maze of people up to the front of the building to the check-in area to put our name on the waiting list. Thankfully our wait was only about 30 minutes because our party is so small, the host said for a bigger party the wait would be about an hour, yikes. We scanned the souvenir shop for a minute, then walked about 5 minutes down the street to an outlet mall to pass the time, and searched for an ATM because the restaurant only accepts cash or check, fyi.

After our little stroll, we came back and waited probably 10 minutes until they had called our number and we were seated. This place is about as southern as it gets- country music filled the entire restaurant, the walls, tables, and benches were wooden, and all of the food was fried. I've been clean eating for almost 2 weeks and I tried to keep that up by ordering salmon..but even that was deep fried!! Fail haha.

Deep fried salmon patties

Super sized cups!

As we looked over our menu to decide what we wanted, one of the servers was passing out these hot, delicious, giant muffin sized rolls to anyone that raised their hand. Except he wasn't gently handing them out to everyone, he was tossing them!! Literally throwing them around the room, in front of him, beside him, doing cool behind-the-back tosses at people..it was so awesome, not gonna lie haha!

There were multiple servers actually that would walk around to every table and offer certain sides (they call them "pass-arounds"), depending on if you have your entree or not. While you're waiting for your meal to come out, you can leave a paper towel in front of you on the table and the servers will know to bring you certain starters such as fried okra, the hot rolls of course, and molasses or apple butter to go on top. Once you have your meal in front of you, the other pass-arounds are offered to you which include fried potatoes and onions, macaroni and tomatoes, black-eyed peas, and sorghum. (They all are included in your meal, so no need to worry, you won't be charged extra for eating them)

We had filled up on so many rolls that by the time we actually got our meal, we could only take two bites! We had to pack the rest up in boxes and save it for later.

After our meal we drove down to the Gulf Shores Beach just about 10 minutes down the road. We hadn't been there yet so we figured we would try it out!

The weather was nice, the water was nice, everything was nice! And we were eager to start swimming...until someone had pointed out a few jellyfish floating around. Awesome. Sooo we spent most of the time in the sand or timidly wading through the ocean, keeping a very sharp eye out for the little jellies.

At least Taylor had time to take a nap while I worked on an art project hehe

I call it "The Little Merman"

So overall, it wasn't a horrible beach, the jellyfish were just a bit frightening, which I don't think is a normal occurrence. It had a little shower on the boardwalk so that was a bonus!

We got home, cleaned up, and chowed down on some kettle corn as we watched Once Upon A TIme (our fave tv series at the moment). Can't wait to see what fun things we'll do next Sunday!
