Lions and Tigers and Bears!
7:26 PMYesterday was a super fabulous day with the "Bama wives" as we spent the morning at the Gulf Shores Zoo in (you guessed it) Gulf Shores, Alabama! We all hopped in the car at 9:30 am and arrived at 10:30, hoping to get there soon enough to beat the heat. I would like to say that we did IN FACT beat that dreaded humid heat successfully so, but alas, no such luck.We still had a fabulous time!
As soon as you step out of the gift shop/ticket booth, you are greeted by a miniature tropical island, complete with palm trees and a water fountain! And if you look closely at the treehouse that's built on it, you can see lemurs hiding away inside their rooms or playing down below on the grass! There are also swans that swim in the water encompassing it. So pretty!
We followed the trail that lead us to the reptile house, full of all kinds of snakes, lizards, iguanas, tarantulas, and even some cockroaches! (I didn't take pictures because that was my least favorite exhibit and we were in an out in about 2 minutes HA!)
Walking along our guided path, we encountered many other different animals- monkeys of all sizes, birds, goats, deer, alligators (down in Alabama you don't always have to go to a zoo to see one of those, yikes!), lions, tigers, bears (oh my!), porcupines, and even a few camels! No elephants or giraffes unfortunately (wah). It was such a hot day out, a lot of the animals were keeping cool by staying in the shade as much as possible, or sitting in their water tub haha! We even stopped to get slushies and thank heaven they had a bunch of misters strewn throughout the park we could stand under.

The best part about our adventure was that we got to hold lemurs! That's right, I said it! Lemurs!! (zaboomafoo style, baby!) Lemurs, along with select reptilians, sloths, and kangaroos, have their own encounters where you can pay a bit extra money to be able to play with them! How fun!
Our zoo guide took us into a large cage with benches sitting along the perimeter for us to sit on and we were instructed to sit in our spot the entire time (not exactly what I wanted but it's okay)! The lemurs were only 3 to 5 months old and were very playful and had a hard time sitting still, which is why we were also instructed not to pick them up and restrict them from leaving our grasp in order for them to move as they please. If they climbed on top of us or around we were, of course, encouraged to pet them and play with them. It was so fun to see them in person though! Their fur was incredibly soft and I enjoyed watching as they swung and jumped around the cage. They have hands just like ours, and even their feet are the same (including the thumb)! It totally made me want a pet lemur haha!
We finished our adventure hot and sweaty, but very pleased! The only thing that could possibly end our day on an even better note (and to cool off) was an ice cream trip to Sonic, which I thoroughly enjoyed to the taste of my peanut butter Oreo shake (die hard PB fan over here)!
As if I hadn't had enough animal exposure within the past 24 hours, Taylor and I will be seeing the new movie, The Secret Life of Pets tonight (we've been really anticipating this one lol). I hope y'all had a wonderful week and have an even more wonderful weekend! Woo!
